    Default 406 Coupe's

Saw the first sub 30k 406 Coupe advertised today, Byzance Blue with Cream Leather 95k's, shame the early one's are all Auto's. Have to think it's a lot of car for the money though.

to think that when i bought the GTi-6 the only thing that stopped me from getting a 406 coupe was the fact that they were all auto then and the dealer never mentioned that a manual was in the pipeline

i'll admit though i am glad that i got the 306 instead though as i think it has more useable room than the coupe

It's an amazingly well styled car isn't it.
I think the manual would be a really nice car.

Yep one of the prettiest cars on the road, not coincidentally the Coupe and the 550 styled by the same company.

And yep shame it's an Auto, if it was manual i'm sure it would be sold already no doubt to an AF member. To add insult to injury it's a rather ordinary Auto box as well.

I test drove a manual before, yes, the manual 'box is NICE ! very smooth and shoft throw that all the Pugs should have !!

The Brembo Calipers are a bit hard and not much feel though...

The car is as lovely to drive as it looks, smooth, silky and full of feel and control. I had one for a weekend and came very close to buying it, but, like most base model Pugs, I felt that it could handle more power and still keep the same poise so I would have always been looking for the little bit more that it didnít have. Itís a real shame that it was never really updated and released in a Mi16 type of model, that would have made it one of the best cars on the market and I would have snapped one up.

The other thing that put me off a bit was that a lot of the interior fittings were the same as my much cheaper 306, so the when I sat in it I kind of lost some of that really special car feeling that looking at it gives you. Again, itís just that it was never updated and made into car that it could have so easily been.

Hmmmmm, now hereís a thought, lets get one and see what a fabricator can do with it Ö with an all wheel drive system, more power and you probably wouldnít need to do too much with the suspension or the body (why do anything?) that would help keep the cost down. Youíd would end up with one incredibly fantastic looking machine that performed as good as it looked, one thing is for certain Ö they would be hard to beat at hot rod shows. Considering how they are coming down in price it may not be too long before it isnít such a pipe dream, in fact there could be quite a few takers Ö Iíd be up for one!

The suspsion is a little bit soft and the steering too light to my liking I have to admit. Of course I won't expect it as stiff as my GTI but I'd love to see them in 17" rims and 40 profile tyres.

There is one pre-owned which the dealer upgraded with16" Oz Superturismo rims , but then it looks too ricey...

This is the demonstrator 406 Coupe at Continental Cars in Auckland, NZ. According to their website, the wheels are 19" and it's all yours for NZ$83,990 www.ccs.co.nz

And they've also put a WRC kit on a lowered GTI180
