I would think with good reason .... it's a thing of the past ... looks good on old cars ... just stupid on new ones. IMHO.

I agree with you XTC. I think the stripes that Ford put on the GT Falcons look over the top and IMHO a little bit ricey. There is a Hyundai Lantra around near here that has the big white stripes over the bonnet, roof and back. I am every time I see it. I need to see it when I have my camera with me.
Murray : And there are flames coming from the back of Prost's car as he enters the swimming pool!
James Hunt: Well that should put them out then!

I'm not a fan of the stripes on the Clio 182. I loved the blue colour, but the stickers are a poor way to celebrate/commemorate the 40th anniv. of the Gordini racing series. Charging 295 for the 'White Competition' stickers is just insulting.

At least mechanically the RSC 182 reflects the Gordini ethos.

Would they be on the other side for left hand drive cars ? .. driver looking right down the lines ?

I really think it depends on the car. For most new cars, I don't think stripes would look good at, especially the GTi180. However, a mate of mine has a BMW MCS, and looking at that car I think the stripes look nice.
