    Engine Rattle

i dont know if this is normal or not, but when the car is sitting on idle, theres a rattle from the engine bay, my friend looked at it and told me its from the efi area, saying that its normal for small cars to have this noise? is this so?

TT - I've only ever driven a 206 XR 1.4 before, but I wouldn't have called it the smoothest engine. My 306 1.8 isn't particularly smooth either, even my mate's Mirage engine feels smoother.

We've talked about this before on this forum - Peugeot aren't exactly renowned for either quiet or smooth vibration free engines.

When are car is cold you are likely to get rattles (especially when it hasn't been started for a while) because there's no oil in the hydraulic lifters. It can take a while to quieten down but is no worries. My last car (won't mention the brand) would rattle for up to a minute after starting, but then it was a bit tired ~380 000km

MR206 can you explain what you mean by 'the efi area' it's a bit vauge. It's probably loose plastic somewhere. My 306 had a rattle when one of the front mudguard linings wasn't clipped on properly. Not hard to fix

No one drives a Peugeot (or a Citroen) for a rattle free car do we?

It is very normal in 206 to rattle a bit especially in the 1.6l. My car has only got 8000km on it and it has already stalled 4 times when i started it up in cold mornings ........... apparently the 'stalling' is also a normal feature on the 206. mallet

thanks heaps for all da feedback, now makes my car feel like its running normally
also i still want a aussiefrogs sticker but i still havent been able to get off my ass to granville to get one yet lol but if u see MR.206 around then u know who it is with or without the sticker wink

and deka about the efi area (electronic fuel injection) just above ur engine, where the hose from the air box goes into, thats where the rattle seems to be coming from

My 307's got the same 1.6 - it definately feels smoother & quieter once it's warmed up.

    Cheers,
