Icon5 [BRIS] 206 Gti 180 | Oil Leak | Engine Rear Main Seal

    Hey everyone,

I have an oil leak from Engine Main Seal. Probably means a gear box out job. Any recommendations for a good mechanic in Brisbane to do this work. From what I understand, it's a gearbox out job, and loosening the engine mounts enough to get to the seal..? Also, a good time to do fresh engine mounts?

    Any other tips?

    Cheers all,

I would inspect the engine mounts and only change them if they need to be changed they are easy enough to change at any time,
but I would change the clutch and clutch fork and the gearbox input shaft seal and seal housing while the box is out.
Or at very least the gearbox input shaft seal and the seal housing clutch fork and thrust bearing.
    Regards Jamie

You reckon it could be that?? So definitely do this before dropping the gearbox out?

How many kays has it done? The original rear main seal lasts quite a while usually.

Could be that excessive crankcase pressure has worn the seal prematurely ,my son had an old volvo that had blown the rear seal out of the block completely ,through a blocked breather ,pugs i agree with stuey ,rear seal seems to be an issue we would relate to a much older car .

There's also a chance it's another plug on the block, like this one:
