Default How do I find TDC on my 1.9 8V?

I'm trying to check the timing on my 1.9 GTi but have just relised that the hole in the main pulley alligns when all the pistons are matched in height, not when #1 is at TDC. I believe that the timming marks are somewhere on the flywheel but how do i see them? Do I have to take something off to see them? Matt.

I found one on my sons BX TZi that I think has the same motor.
It's about 2 years ago that I hunted it down, but from memory it's at the passengers side end of the engine and you have to separate a few rubber hoses to get to the hole in the bellhousing; it's to the front of the distributor (by front I mean towards the radiator). I'd suggest a good spotlight as I can remember it's a bugger of a thing to find. It's a hole about the size of or a bit smaller than a 20 cent piece.

If it ain't broke, use a 12" shifter.....that usually does the trick!!
