    Default Mi16 head gasket help

    Hi all
I think the head gasket has gone. It's a real nice example and am making up my mind to dump it or fix it ?
after your opinion on if it is worth it ? How many hours labour should a mechanic charge me and what is involved in doing the job ? Think I will do the timing belt at the same time. How much should it cost ? The 2 old school progestin guys that I have dealt with here in Sydney ( both very good and very honest) Paul and Jason. Rather I supply the parts for work done on my car. Just so they don't waste their time looking for bits. What would I need beside the gadget and belt ?
    thanks all

Never supply parts as if something goes wrong with the repair then the arguments begin

No idea of the cost but expect over 2 grand I reckon. Thing is, yes, that's more than the market value of the car but if the rest is good and you value the car then it's worth doing.

Mind you I'm a sucker for dumping money into a car! But I also don't like scrapping perfectly good cars.

Just keep an open mind when you take that head off. The root cause may be corrosion in the block and/or the head (if it's a 1.9L). Be prepared for the worst and possibly walk away from it with a bill and a box of parts. Typically you'd give it a head job, cam belt, tensioners and water pump at the same time, in addition to replacement oil and coolant hoses.

It's not worth it; I've been there and done that. Unless the body and interior are schmick.
