I go for NGK or Denso Iridium.
They last for years and spare the cylinder head thread from wearing out (by reducing the number of spark plug changes)

Make sure you use copper eze on the threads of the platinum or iridium spark plugs if you expect to be able to easily remove them after 60,000km or so. Otherwise, stick with NGK or BOSCH plugs.

    Hi Doush,

Thanks for such a quick reply! I had a look online but I would appreciate it if you could let me know which model number it is or the link I could click on as I looked it up but it was hard to find.

    Thanks

    Hi Al504

Remember we are in Australia, and while many of us buy stuff from the UK and Europe, there seem to be many auto spares places over there that won't mail stuff to Australia, so we only have experience with a subset of the options available to you.

That said, I realise that 504 parts are not going to be sitting on the shelves of every auto spares outlet, so Aussie 504 owners may be able to help. GSF car parts carries a small amount of 504 stuff, but seems to be mainly for late model diesels. Micks Garage claim to carry service items for all 504s, so might be worth a look!

    Cheers

    Alec

I think you need to give us a bit more information - especially which engine you have. You'll find that the spares places do not usually care about trim level codes like GR or GL, but want to know your engine type. Once you know that, you'll be able to find what you need on sites like Mick's Garage.

GR and GL refer to the trim level, generally, but can sometimes reveal the mechanical setup, ie. live axle, independent rear, etc.

Unfortunately they are sometimes only appropriate for a particular market.

In my 1972 504 GL 2 litre petrol I run NGK spark plugs either BP5ES or BP6ES. The BP6ES plug is whats recommended by the manufacturer, however the BP5ES runs a little hotter and may help to burn off carbon deposits in an older engine. I run 98 octane unleaded. Timing needs to be spot on to avoid "pinging" and piston damage.

As for headlight bulbs, what type of headlights do you have? Are they standard sealed beam, or Trapezoidal?

As for an air filter - depends on the type of air filter set up on your 504. Most early 504's ran an oil bath

    Pictures would help

If its a carburated car... i would not bother with iridiums... stick to stock plugs... iridiums are great on modern engines with sophisticated engine managment... but on an old 504 imo they are a waste of money...
