Default 406 hdi running very poorly

Just a quick note my 406 hdi started running so badly it was not pleasant to drive
After a few basics fuel filter etc. It was the lower hose from the turbo that goes to the intercooler had split
So diesels aren't like petrol motors which just go low on power if they loose boost
The hdi produced so much unburnt fuel smoke several police people thought I was heralding the end of the world

Reason it was smoky is that these engines use an airflow meter that heavily influences the amount of fuel that is injected. If you have a leak post-turbo (which is also post-AFM), the ECU sees the engine sucking a lot of air, and allows a lot of fuel to be injected. Problem is, the air isn't actually going into the cylinder, so the amount of fuel is grossly over calculated and smoke ensues....
