I was thinking exactly the same thing. Wouldn't it be ironic.

And both resemble a squashed Hyundai.

I'm not sure about the claw running lights. I'd also prefer the GT version to have a bit more grunt than a 1.6L Petrol or 2.0L diesel. But on the whole, I don't mind it. The interior looks much improved from the current series.

Anyone else notice Peugeot are returning to model numbers on bonnets? (a la 104 204 304 404 504 604). It's same font too.

I've been wondering what Peugeot would do when they got past (n)09. Maybe they are just sticking with 08 for a while. The new model is more than a midlife refresh - so I wonder if number 8 being good luck (money) in China has something to do with it.

Sticking with the 08 number isn't a new thing at this point (new 308 and 3008).
Peugeot stated on there website (although I can't fine the article anymore) that they would stick with the 08 number going forward.
They did already use the 09 number on the 309, so I guess they figured they should stop at 8.

So I see - just found this article.

I do remember the 309 being sold in the UK at the time of the 205 and 405. I read it was originally intended to be a Talbot. A friend of mine had the GTI version. I don't think I've ever seen one here.

I have a 309 GTi that I built into a rally car. I had another one which I sold a couple of months back. Both are in Melbourne.

Those bleeding headlights are hideous. I hope they depart from the tacky chrome trim. The 208 GTI looks much better in the Anniversary trim IMO.
