    205 AC

    hello all

i'm am probably one of many 205 owners with stuffed AC. i've been thinking of fixing it, but it is a cost issue.

    here's the deal:
the condensor is cracked, its been offline for 6mths now, it worked ok b4 then.

i can get a second hand one from my mechanic for $150, he estimates $500 for him to get it going. half of what i originally thought!

i can get the condensor and do it myself.

so after listening to his advise it seems i can indeed do it myself and then get it gased for around another $125.

so all up its a fair bit of my time and say $250. so if it still doesn't work then thats $250 down the drain, not $500.

either way we can't garantee the AC will work, but then it hasn't been offline for that long, but then... ha!

so my question is, has anyone done this b4, is this a reasonable thing to do for a fair to middly do-itselfer?

the system is the new gas, and it has no gas in it at the moment.

    cheers

Any aircon that hasnt been run for such a long time with no gas in the tubes may suffer from cracked seals. Ask the shop gassing it to do the pressure test properly before gassing it.

cheers! To change the AC condenser is easy as the whole fan unit and radiators comes out as one peice. It should only take about 20min to pull it out and replace.

If you are interested I have a 8 month old AC condenser that I purchased for my 205 before I started the Mi16 conversion. IT cost $270new and I would sell it for $100 + postage.

    Send an email if interested.

Sorry Parry for butting in but you stole my thunder re the AC stuff.

The same thing happened to me.Got a new condensor, then the compressor went (and filter/dryer).Got it gassed, then the pipe went(from compressor to firewall)- got it repaired and gased, broke again got it repaired and gased. Finally manufactured a new one and regased. I put the dryer, condensor and compressor in but it still has cost a fortune. My advice make sure you know exactly what condition the system is in before you attempt to fix it. On all times i've had the system pressure tested and colour dyed!
