Yes, locally made, at least the trim was, but to the imported design. If Robert's seats lay back they would be the first local ones, not the tombstones.

    Hi John,
I've mentioned it in other threads but haven't posted much on it as I haven't had any time to do anything with it. It's an 80 model, originally from Hornsby NSW. Somehow made it to Canberra and was converted to a V6 / 5 speed by Alpine Motors here - who knows when or why.

It was on historic plates more recently before I bought it. It is pretty straight with no rust to speak of. The plan is to do what it needs to get it on the road soon. Might do a "rolling restoration". Not sure though - the faded paint with minor surface rust looks cool. It may have other mods (brakes, suspension etc - not sure). The clutch hydraulics are dead so I need to address that before trying to drive it too far. This is the car that I bought the early style French Seats for. It remains to be seen as to whether I can fit them.

Other things to do are to replace the wiper motor, maybe fix an oil leak or two (sump I think), fix a dodgy door hinge and give it a clean. I am looking forward to driving it - not so much in the hot months (no AC). I wouldn't mind a set of 505 alloys also.

By the way - the V6 has one alloy rocker cover and one black steel one. Does anyone know if that is normal?

yes the mix of rocker covers is normal. My 1977 private imported 604 had this arrangement. I think Aust delivered 1978 and later 604s all had 2 alloy rocker covers because one side was a mount for the AC compressor and the other side was the mount for the air pump needed for emission requirements.

    Thanks Rob,

It looks a bit average having the two different types. I'd prefer the two alloy covers I think. Oh well - not worth worrying about though.

    Cheers,
    James

Bastille Day in Brisbane was yesterday and it was great to see so many 504's parked in one spot. I think there were 10 sedans, 1 wagon, 1 cabriolet and 1 coupe.

I may have picked up two awards..... which is very rewarding after working on the car for a number of nights prior to Sunday fixing oil leaks in the automatic transmission, engine oil and filter change, and replacing seals in brake booster. It was nice to drive it again after a week of it being on axle stands.
