    Default 403 eBay Australia

Does anyone know this car? It looks quite nice.
Considering Graham Wallis' recent thread, "What is a 403 worth?" It will be interesting to see how this one travels...

I wish them all the luck in the world. They will need it. Peugeot people do not value older Peugeots.

i reckon it is worth over $7000. I have one equal or better than that and I would not let it go under $8000. I think I will die with it and I am happy about that.

The 403 advertised is that which was displayed at the Gosford auto museum..they had it priced at $10,000 some months back.

$10000 is a fair price but they will never get it unfortunately.

I got $2700 for mine which would have been a lot better mechanically, a well used and proven car, this one looks tidier but nowhere near concours condtion even so. You wouldn't get $10000 even for a mint one. The only Peugeot worth anything is a series 3 205 GTi, I keep getting people asking me about my rough Miami blue one.

It was advertised for sale at $10,000, previously , then again on Ebay with a reserve of $7500.
I bid $5,000 and never heard back.
I guess it depends on your budget and what you want to do with it...

I can't find $7k for this car in comparison to the other one. The mere mention of sill rust puts the fear of god into most 403 owners. If it is
com ing through the sills, the subframe beneath could be a disaster.
Interior will require a lot of work, and 20 years of storage can lead to
major deterioration of many components. If you really want a 403..
Inspect by all means, but I feel better value examples may be had for
less dosh, but patience may be rewarded.

The ad says the $7K is just so their ad doesn't get removed. Being not familiar with Gumtree (and Ebay ads) what does this mean? Regardless, the seller may be quite willing to negotiate. I love Peugeots, but in Australia I am in the minority so it's a buyers market.

Also, irrespective of what an ad description says, you would have to conduct your own thorough inspection of any car of this age for rust, mechanical etc. 403s have removable sill panels and there may be some minor rust in those panels with the sills underneath possibly being sound.

Whether someone thinks this is a good buy (subject to negotiated price) depends on what they are looking for. Are they looking for a concourse example or a presentable example to go for the occasional drive in?

re the Gumtree 403 , it looks very much like the car for sale from the Tony Howman estate about 18 months ago for $2500. The Howman car was sold and was notable for its Jaeger Coupler ( clutchless gear change ) , and when I inspected it -was impressed with its condition ( no obvious rust ). No 403 can be guaranteed to be rust free , the only way to check is with sill panels off and a good poke around with a sharp prodder , even then some can be missed.

Not saying IT IS the Howman car , it could be - converted back to manual - originally the Howman car WAS a manual. Does anyone know who bought the Howman car ?

    Such petulance.
French cars in Australia are only worth what the market is willing to pay.
If $10000 is a fair price (but they'll never get it); it's obviously not worth that much to Australian buyers.
It should be noted that many of us here benefit from our appreciation of the French marques and their depreciation. You get a hell of a lot of car for your money that way.
Yes, I think 403s are great (404s are better )
But let's hope someone who appreciates 403s buys it and looks after it.

Dano may also like to know that the Gosford car in question was in "Just Cars" magazine for months @ $10,000 before finally disappearing two months ago and started popping up on E-bay and GumTree. Nice car but they are not getting the message about the market are they?
'Course I'd be happy to take it off their hands if it's proving an impediment! (I always was charitable like that ;-)

Ebay auction for the "Gosford" car just ended. $5005.00 was the highest bid - "Reserve not met". Where will it pop up next I wonder - and at what price ...

(I was watching because I'd LOVE to have a 430 again - my first Pug (in 1973) was a cream 403 with red interior, sigh ... But I cannot justify it - and besides I have no garage to put it in, so I'll just watch and dream )

Double my cars price, looked a bit neater but can't see it being as good as mine mechanically even allowing for some flaws in mine.
