    STi idling

Have got an 85' Sti auto, which idles fine in neutral when warm ( a bit lumpy and prone to stalling when cold though). But in drive with a little load on the motor, it idles like a bastard, making the car rock back and forth, threatening to stall and generally being a pain. To get it to idle even half decently at the lights, I have to crank the idle screw right up, so it idles at around 1600 rpm in neutral - not so hot for the auto when engaging drive...
    Any suggestions?

Join the club There was a recent post in the performance forum about this topic:

I've been tinkering with mine for a while eg. changed plugs etc, but no cure so far.

found something - the 2 little vacuam hoses that connect to the thermoswitch on the heater bypass hoses at the front of the timing belt cover were hooked up wrong so that the warm up enrichment device wasnt getting the vacuam it needed to reduce the counter pressure on the fuel distributor diaphragm and was hence running far too lean during warm up. Or something.
