    Does anyone know the process for unlocking ECUs so they donít require the coded key to operate? Interested to know whatís possible on a 306... have seen unlocked GTI6 ecus on fleabay...

    Do you have the key and immobiliser?

    Don't you just unplug the ecu with the ignition on?
    That does a soft unlock on the ecu then engine can be started with a no coded key.

    Been reading up up a bit on this as I'm about to remove the engine from my GTI6 for a 205 conversion.
    Not been 100% confident to do it yet though.

    You need to remove the immobiliser as well, with the ignition on.

    It's easy to check. Get yourself a blank, plain key cut. If it still starts after a full reboot you know it's done.

    Can anyone point me in the direction of the immobiliser? The 306 Iíll be practicing on has the dash out and the wiring loom disconnected

    Hidden underneath the ash tray. It's black. You need to remove the centre console etc. Don't get confused with the air bag ECU.

    can get an unlocked ECU from the UK for not silly money - PM me if interested, no affiliation with the seller

    but that would take all the fun.... out of the process
