Default 205 gti S1, S2... which is better

    Hi guys, Im back!

I'm pretty keen to buy a 205gti some time early next year (05). Seeing as I have all the time in the world to wait for the right one to show up I thought I better do some finding out about which is T-H-E 205gti to get.

Is the 1.9 significantly faster than the 1.6?

Did they put a crappy exhaust on late S2 models?

Which model is the best? As far as I can tell its the S2, say a 1992 model or somthing

Is there one particular series get, or NOT to get.

What is are main things that point to a 205 being poorly maintained, weathered a bit or simply a thrashed wrech?

Most people on brittish forums say that the build quality of 205 is poor. True?

As an aside, it seems that 405 Mi16 has a simmilar market value to a 205 gti. How does the 405 rate compaed to a 205. I just recon that if I ever am going to get a hot hatch then it better be now, rather than when Im old with kids (shivverrrr).

    HI,

Luca you can sit down we know what you will say. This has been talked about before so go search the forum. They are all great all models have pros and cons. Go for a low km one.

    Ok,
I can appreciate that this topic probably does pop its head up every now and again and you guys just end up typing the exact same thing over and over.

Perhaps you could direct me to a couple previous topics where this question was covered fairly well? That would be great if u could.

That said, I didn't even know that there even was a S3 205, so I'm finding things out already a?
    Cheers

There are too many to name. Just type 205 into the advanced search of the peugeot forum and make your own selections. A series 3, (91 onward) rear discs, 15" wheels and Motronic injection being its' recognisable traits, would be my choice. The last of any series is generally the best, although Datsun lost the plot on the Z cars.

My preference is the series 2 205 as a standard car. The best mix is a series 3 with series 1 or 2 gearing.

Maybe I need to elaborate on the series.

    Series 1
    74kw motor
    vertical heater dial
    BE1 gearbox (3.9 final drive)
    14inch wheels

    Series 2
    74kw
    Round heater dials
    Be1 gearbox (3.9 final Drive)
    14inch wheels

    Series 2.5 (My own series)
    74kw
    Round heater dials
    BE3 gearbox (stronger box 3.9)

    Series 3
    90kw
    Round dials
    Half leather interior
    Be3 gearbox (3.6)
    Power steering.
    15inch (Best looking Pug rim)

Some people just talk about series 1 and 2 and they are grouped by the 74kw and the 90kw motors.

The zippines of the 3.9 final drive is so much more fun than the series 3 gearing. The series 3 cars go for the most money.

I also own a 405mi16 Series 2 and it is a totally diferent beast than the 205. Nowhere as zippy as a 205 but handles freeway driving much better than a 205.

Now a 205 with a mi16 is a total beast of a car!!!! I also owned one for a day!!!

It's funny how 3 series had these differences each time in Oz.
In the UK and Europe the differences are dependent on wether your have the 1.9 or the 1.6.

All the 1.9 engines, regardless of age came out with the half leather, factory-fit sunroof, 15" speedlines, and discs on the rear.

The 1.6 engines on the other hand, were released with the basics. Cloth trim, no sunroof, 14" alloys, and drums on the rear. The 1.6's that are getting around with the 1.9 identifying pieces were either optional extras from the showroom, or have been added on aftermarket to mimmick the 1.9's.

    Cool,
Good stuff guyz, you were right. There is a mass of Gti info here.
By the way, there is a slim chance (Like supermodel slim) That I might sell my R10 when I go GTi shopping.
(My R10 has an 1.4 from an auto virage with a 10s webber, it really does look like the avtar)

I once had a ride in one of Colin Stark's son's 205s when I was in highschool and have been keen on them since. Im a fan of that red interior.
So yeah, I'll be looking for one next year some time. Untill then, its
    information gathering time for me.

By the way PugJet, Im sure I have seem your 205 elswere on the net. I had it as a wallpaper on my computer for a while.
9Carefull, don't let your head get to big... Or you won't be able to fit through the door of your 205!)
It's a small net though aint it?

    ... awww, schucks .

rich, as others have said, just buy the best gti you can afford, regardless, of series.

all will, inevetiably, have to succumb to the renewal of parts and the usual maintenance of automobile ownership.

by the way , if you havent seen the other pix of my chloe they are found in the "old" gallery section - heres a shortcut :

Lemme get this right Reggie. To save a few dollars you are gonna get your wheels fixed by a backyarder?
Like with a sledgehammer and an oxy-torch?
    Hmmm.
What will you do with the extra $20. Buy a home-made crash helmet?? The bamboo and ice-cream container ones are the best.

P.S. Speaking of Asian princes; on a sad note, a friend of mine died a few days ago. He was a real life Asian Prince. Balinese actually. Some people don't get a crack at being a cranky old bastard. I hope I get the chance.
