Default 403 Taxi on ABC Crime Drama Show

Did anyone else notice the beautiful black and red 403 taxi on "Death in Paradise"?

Haven't seen the inside, but the exterior looks great.

The one we owned years ago had the overdrive box and would pull far higher speeds than the suspension was good for by the time it found it's way to us.

The overdrive model had an overall ratio of 4.33 to 1 as the final drive was 5.73 to 1.
The direct drive model 403b had an overall ratio of 4.2 so was actually taller geared. It is amusing to read road tests of the day with the motoring writers carrying on about how the 403b pulled better but didn't cruise as well! One advantage of the earlier model could be less diff surge due to greater number of revolutions at any given speed?

Diff surge? I've only had that where the crown wheel was very heavily worn.

Did see it. Reminded me of the car the child bride and I had when we got married. Bought it (a 1956 variation) off a mate who had a car yard for $80. Bloody outrageous!! That was a fortnights pay back then. Someone had hand painted it with house paint using a six inch brush. Prince of darkness ignition refused to start when there was more than a heavy dew, but couldn't kill it with a stick. Three on the tree with overdrive, great highway drive. Eventually traded it on a piece of pommy crap. Worst car move I ever made. Ain't hindsight a wonderful thing!!

Hind sight gives one perfect vision...guess because you can see everything that happened.

Haven't seen the inside, but the exterior looks great.

It sounded like it's a diesel as well, making it quite rare I imagine.

    Mike,
My brother had an early 403 with semphore trafficators which had outrageous diff surge...it was really awful to drive at slower 'accelerating' speeds...but brilliant when wound up when the needle would routinely dive off the rhs of the speedo.

I recall catching a 403 diesel cab in Manila around 1976...amazing where they turned up!
