Icon14 206Gti service and body info required.

    Hey everyone,

I'm a new 206 gti owner, and i'd just like some info on where a good place to get my car serviced in Sydney is. I spoke to the the dealerships and i was quoted over $700 for a major service, before parts. I heard it's probably a good idea to go with the them, but really i can't afford something like that. So if anyone knows somewhere that is good and also good value, it'd be much appreciated.

Also I want to get a rally style spoiler for my car and maybe a bodykit, does anyone know any good places for that as well?

    Any information would be great!!!

    Thanx,
    Tim

    Hi and welcome to

Can I make a suggestion? For a new car that is in warranty, get it serviced at a dealer rather than putting a body kit on if you can afford one and not the other.

Isn't the service interval on a 206GTI 20 000km anyway? If you do the maths, it's probably quite cheap...

I actually bought the car used, it's a 99 model. It has 38,500km on it at the moment so it's coming up to it's major at 40,000. Sorry, i should've put that info in there. That's also why i want to find out some places for bodykits.
Thanx for the speedy reply though Deka.

Oh ok. Well the only place I was going to suggest in Sydney is fully booked for the next 9-10 weeks, but even so, it won't cost much less than the dealer specified amount.

Try Peter Portelli at Portapug or Colliers at Granville.

That's Firedance Guy. Car looks like it has 14" wheels and the bridge in the background looks to long to be in OZ.

I know the colour ... but was wondering if they actually had a Firedance one (seeing they are so rare and all).

    Hey Guys,

To XTC206, yea dats the colour of my car, although it's not my car in the picture, yea, it's called firedance, i think it was a limited edition colour for the 99 model.

To SLC I've had a brief look at 206gti.net, haven't seen the list though, it's such a huge site. My has the 16" alloys, everything is pretty stock standard at the moment, so looking to upgrade a little. I'll have a look at that list.

    Thanx guys,
    Tim

If they're 16s, it's possibly not as "stock standard" as you think, or it's not a MY99, which wore 15s ... nice colour, but ... and post your Q on 206gti.net, where you'll find a bunch of Syd motors.

The 80K service .... yep it's expensive (about $800) , but better then bent valves. I thought the engine just had to drop one mount to get to it ?? .. not the whole thing.

    Hi

Nope it has to come out, You cant get the timing cover bolts out with the engine in the car, thats what 2 different Peugeot mechanics working at 2 different Peugeot garages say on another forum here in the uk.

When I got the timing belt replaced at 80k in my (recently sold) GTi the local dealership was advertising the service for AU$399.00 Whilst that's not exactly cheap, that was the whole thing including parts and labour. I consider that to be a reasonably attractive deal, and anyway that's another 40,000km away for Tim.

I don't believe they would have been able to do that, and the full 80k service in the one day if they had to remove the engine to do it. My understanding is that they just drop the one side (like Guy said) to gain access. Clearance is not too good, but I thought good enough to avoid pulling the motor altogether.

    Simon

I had some warranty work done on my gti a few weeks back. Part of the work was to replace the waterpump. They also replaced the timing belt at the same time and didnt have to remove the motor. They had to undo the engine mounts i think.

    Default Cam belt service

My Pug mechanic, Coles Car Sales @ Lismore, has done a few 206 GTi cam belts and yes there is very little room but you only need to undo the gearbox mount to enanble the engine to be moved slightly, providing enough room to move.

    Hi Tim,

Firedance is one of the original 206 colours. It was made an order only colour (for OZ) in 2000. I'm not sure if it is still an order only colour - have a look at the Colour Matrix spreadsheet here:

Just dusted off my car's 80,000Km service invoice, where the cam belt and water pump were replaced with four hours labour for an all-up cost of $682.60. Our pommy mates are being taken for a ride if they're being told the engine has to come out, and that it's an all-day job ...
