    Default 205 Alternator Price?

    Hiya.

I just paid $365 for a changeover reco alternator for my 205 Si. I can't shake the feeling that it's a bit steep. Is there a reason why it's so pricey?

strewth - thats steep! Valeo regulator (assuming a Paris Rhone unit here )- ~$80 - 100, new bearings fitted, machine slip ring and check diodes - ~$50 - 80. This is all that is usually required. For the dollars you quoted, I would be expecting a new slip ring and diodes.

Or a brand new aussie Bosch "universal" alternator for ~$180 if you can find one to fit.

The reason its expensive is that it is a french car, and they reckon they can charge more. Very irritating.

it was the full unit changed over. I'm really happy with the service I got, in that I turned up, and they did the job for me in half an hour and charged me $15 for the labour. Basically they had the part on hand. On the invoice it says that it's a Mi16 reco alternator. It's just that I thought alternators were around the $200 mark.
