    Default Losing water in Mi16

    G'day,

I had the low coolant level warning light come on recently in my 405 mi16 and on filling it, it took just over a litre of coolant to bring it back up to level, i checked it a week ago and i was fine, what could cause such a sudden loss of coolant?

    cheers

How long since you checked it the time before that? Obviously you are not seeing any of it on the ground?

SRDT has been doing it for a little while. It currently sits in the back yard in lots of pieces and the new head gasket is in a packet on my desk as I type. Hopefully by tonight or early tomorrow it will be a goer again. Hope yours is a weeping hose or pump though.

I had the same problem, it was a pin crack in the heater hose..

keep in mind that their is a full level on the radiator, its a little nobi thing, thats the full line, not the top of the radiator...

any more seems to leak out and land on the power steering belts makin them slippery...

Basicly check all your hoses, the heater hoses, radiator hoses etc see where it is leaking from before you run off in a pannic...

both my heater hoses have been replaced, its 19mm tube buy some generic stuff from a good auto store...

    Cheers
    Nathan..

Check to see if the passenger side floor is wet. The heater matrix seems to fail at the 10 to 12 year mark. They are about $190 from Peugeot and take an experienced person about 3-4 hours to replace, as the dash must be pulled back from the windscreen about 200mm to fit it.

If the matrix is leaking try using some of the rad weld up stuff, pour it in the expansion tank.. Can't hurt, only costs 2, a lot easier than removing the dash

On the other hand if the dashboard vents aren't producing steam, stinking the car out and steaming up the windscreen then it won't be the matrix

The rad weld or other stop leak stuff may block your water galleries, so I'd avoid against the "quick fix". Find out properly where the leak is coming from by doing a pressure test on the system.

we had this problem with our 405... hopefully yours is different though.. its sounds like classic 405 cancer... corrosion in the block just under the inlet manifold. very common with 405's. as i said hopefully yours is different though cause its not an easy fix.. cost us about $3000 and we did most the work ourselves.... good luck!

Exact same thing just happened to mine this week.

It was the heater matrix so we just bypassed the heater until i have the time to fix that.

Must be another common pug thing.....

The bars leaks type of product should not clog your water galleries as they only harden on contact with air, which is how they amazingly can find the leak and plug it. That said they are only a temporary measure. Got my landcruiser home from mittagong with the 505 SRDT on the trailer behind when the bottom tank on the cruiser's radiator split. Drove it for a month before I had to replace the radiator.
