Default Advice on buying 2001 306 XT

Hi all, I had my 206 GTI destroyed by a fallen tree, so now I need a new Pug.

    I have found a 2001 306 XT manual with 140,000km on it.

If the car is well taken care off, would this be too much of a risk to buy?

Seller stated there are full service logs and timing belt has been changed. He also states he is a mechanic.

I would of course get NRMA or an independent mechanic to check it first.

I have two small children and wife's car, so don't want to spend 1000s on fixing it if things go wrong.

Any advice would be appreciated on the 306 and its longevity/durability.

Probably better to get a Peugeot speciallist to look at it for an informed opinion, other than anyone who has worked on it previously.
At that sort of reasonably low k's it could well be a very good car.

    Thanks Ianrobbo.
I will have to get an NRMA inspector or an independent local mechanic. The car is fair way from me and my local Pug specialist.

But, you reckon the KMs are not that high?

Ks are fine as long as it true and the service records stack up. Timing belts are supossed to be under 4 years old. Check for filter changes in the record and inspect/replace them if there old for peace of mind along with fluids.

The NRMA will not give the car anywhere near as good an inspection as one of the better recognised Peugeot repairs will because the speciallists know the specifics to look for. Where is the car located and is the vendor happy to let have any inspector you choose check it for you? You tell me where it is and I will suggest the best person to take it to.

The car is located in Blacktown area.
Just today, the dealer called me and said that the radiator fan stopped working and that he was trying to get it fixed.
Now I am wondering if this is a sign of things to come and the car might start having other issues.
