Without rust, it just wouldn't be a 404!

One thing a 404 Ute can't do is accommodate anyone who is tall.

Yep legroom is a challenge at 6' 1'' I will have to have an ankle chop. If old cars did,t dissolve imagine all the Datsun 120 Y ,s 180 B ,s Falcon XD sedans out there clogging the roads .

What can't a 404 ute do? Win the East Africa safari.

On legroom: I found the seat belt mid-mount prevents the bench seating from going further back. Once relocated I had a bit more legroom.

Thanks I will check the seat belt mounts there are already mystery bolts and plates either side or the transmission tunnel at the back .I hope to lower the seat as well.

Dunno, the FiL's ute has plenty of leg room. Even with bucket seats in it.

That Breaks me up....problem is that it is a ute....not a break....Maybe a Breakin Ute.....would make a great chook pen......OR a couple of decent lumps of steel welded underneath would help it go another ?????????? k's

Pity the 203/403/404 utes did not have a rear panel with radiased corners to be less Japaneeeeeseee Squeeeezeeee.

I have a 403 ute which HOPEFULLY I will get time to do just that to.The one i had eons ago was brilliant except for the legroom.

I cannot recall the 'sitch' with the 504's though I have seen a few of them.

    MR604,
Is that Ean's ute the extended cab and a 504 steering column that you're talking of?

Yeah mate, that's it. He hasn't long come back from a trip to Karumba, where he towed a fishing boat to and back from Wagga Wagga. He's also my official engine builder for my 404.

I thought that sounded like Ean's ute...which is a bit more roomy than the standard unit...slightly extended cab done by a prior owner if I recall correctly and the 504 column which moves the steering wheel away from the drivers frame by a couple of inches; that with his TI motor, floor shift and aircon...quite a desirable ute...and roomier than usual

    cheers
