Default 205 GTI Shocks - what brand?

Was just having a quick look under the back of my new 93 205GTI and trying to identify the shocks. They are black, but the rears have a hello stripe, about 8mm thick that wraps around the tube toward the top of the fat end. I could not see any stampings on them. Are these likely to be Peugeot units, or is the yellow strip synonymous with another particular brand / make?

YAY .... something original on my car !!

This is a bit weird, BUT i was feeling around the the strut when it was parked and I put my hand in the space on the upper side of the strut .. I was shocked, but I swore to myself that the top side of the strut was partially flat. So let me ask, are the Pug shocks totally round, or is there a flat spot on one side?

The larger shocks, talking the rears here not the struts? are flat to allow clearance.
    The thinner ones are round.

Correct. fitted the gti6 rear shocks and they have a flat surface to allow clearance on the rear suspension. Original 205 ones do not as far as I know and I can check for you tomorrow as they are under the car, nearly 30 years old.

Original shocks are round on my 87 GTI. Had them out yesterday to grease the mounting tubes to cure squeaks. No flat areas on the shock body

205 GTI Shocks - what brand?-dsc04736.jpg Last pic I take of these bloody shocks!

The shocks have one flat and a yellow stripe of paint.

If yours a black, have a flat and a yellow stripe I will bet they are the Pug standard shocks.

Yes, 205s were fitted with both the big and the small shocks.
Interestingly the Si shockers, made in Yugoslavia by AP are slightly longer than the Peugeot made GTi ones and quite a bit longer than the Konis, so when replacing a leaking one on my stock Si the other day I fitted another Yugoslavian one, why reduce the travel? Especially as this car was bought to use off the bitumen.

No piccies but mine had a blue paint mark, are definately oem and original as I am sure magdick would not have been interested in them! Look remarkably like those pictured just as dirty not like my new ones at all.
