    Default 404 Ute Owners

Guys, can you have a look at the upholstered pad fixed to the lower section of the dash on either side of the "404" badge.

If I'm going to pay for a re-do, I want to get it right.

Mine is covered with a grey-blue vinyl but the seat & door cards are tan.

I would expect it to match the seat & door cards.

    Am I wrong?

Yep, same here. Grey-blue dash pad, tan doors and seats.
It wont be going back together that way though.....

just gate crashing here and wanted to post about this car ... I was in Surry Hills on Crown Street last Thursday and I saw a 404 Ute, pale khaki / tan colour, older gentleman driver, immaculate original condition... I fell in love with the whole picture .. Car was perfect, as was driver. Any ideas who's car that was? Driver was in a Flannelette shirt, maybe 70-75 years old. Car was immaculate and 100% original right down to the steel wheels and hub caps!

The crash pad or knee pad was usually black. Just like the steering wheel and dash. (That's here in Aust.)
During my lifetime in the 404. I recall sedans and wagons with matching coloured bump pads though. I'd expect colour coded dash/knee cushion trim would have been an option in high demand areas like Europe but probably not in Australia. We got what we got, usually black under the dash.
It's your car though! A matching colour could easily have been ordered or changed on arrival 50 years ago, enjoy the machine and colour it the way you want it.

    OK!

    Thanks guys.

The combo doesn't make any sense to an ordered mind but, hey, that's the mindset that spawned the 2CV!

Many 403b had the two tone blue fleck crash pads too.

I suspect it might have flowed over into the 404, as was standard practice with Peugeot. With the later model previous car sharing parts in common with the early versions of the next model.
