There should be a metal plate just under the bootlatch on the 306 hatches. I'm pretty sure mine says it was assembled in france in November 94. Didn't get here til 95 though.

I don't think you can rely on the French "Build" plate that you mention for assembly info, Puls8r. It gets put on when the body is finished, rather than when or where the final assembly occurs I think.

Known, S16 owners here in AF are, Brad/phasis (nice blue one), Stone perfect A1 blue), Gem (neat i red) and S16 (don't know his clolour though)...

It's diablo red, in good shape. I have a factory sunroof and it came with the six stacker/casette unit before i junked it and replaced it with some alpine gear.

I dont have the full leather interior but i saw a a white one with full black leather and it looked like a cave in there, too black for my liking. I think the fabric on the S16 is alot nicer than that of the gti6 which is a bit messy, 2_cents , S16's looks far more aggressive.

Didn't think that the S16 was so rare, i've never seen a blue or silver one in the flesh, must admit the pics of Brad's car look very nice, is the black and silver metallic?

I've always wondered what a yellow S16 would look like, seen a few convertables in yellow. approve

The Yellow in the cabriolet was never used on a hatch or sedan, AFAIK. The Gti6 did come in a Gold colour, not sure if it made it onto any other models.

Blaze yellow was available in the XSi and Cabrio yeah.

Great colour I reckon, suits the GTi6 well. Shame it didn't sell that well here though. I think I have seen two Blaze GTi6's in the country. This colour and plain red seem to be rare with the GTi6.

Edit - Blaze yellow is the gold colour.....sorry it can be confusing when talking about the plain yellow wink

Wonder when they introduced EBFD - it'd be sometime around the introduction of the updated N5?

I know it was in by 2001.

Geez, under 100 S16's, i thought it was around 150. I would expect probably about 70% are still on the road, considering their performance inclinations. I am sure a portion would of also gone to track and rallying.

BTW, I remember previously there has been some discussion about what the power output of an S16 is.

According to the first N3 Australian spec sheet, it's supposed to be 116kW.

there has to be more S16's out there
i remember not that long ago there used to be at least 6-8 S16's in the paper every week for a long time after the GTi-6 was released
and they weren't the same adds over and over again
i'd be estimating there to be at least 3-400 S16's sold in this country

For the S16' number's most say (remember they only sold for just over 2 years) that they only delivered 90 something examples.. this is the figure i also hear from most yards... however im really not 100%.. perhaps peugeot/inchcape could tell it better....
Gti6's sold for about 6 years?? does that sound right? i heard 400 gti6's delivered...
S16 i think S16's offer excelent features/performance Vs Money... i love mine, and i have yet to consider selling it EVER!!
lol..
I just like driving it hard, and cruzing with the sunroof back, exhaust burbling and doing 70Kmh flat (round all bends) on a nice twisty road...
But for outright Kart-fun 205's!..with MI-16's are KING!!!!!! cheers chris

ps---weve heard enough about the s16's how bout some XSi and GTI-6 input, i d like to hear from Cabriolet owner's too.

I havent driven a 100kw 2l, (XSI) though I would expect the difference would lie in the revs. The 116KW S16 goes to 7,000, while the 100kw 2l goes to 6,000 (this is correct isnt it?). Therefore, as an exampe, if you had a flat torque curve, [email protected],000rpm = [email protected],000rpm.

I would expect the XSI engine would have a more beefy curve, like the GTI6 engine, therefore compensating for the slope in torque of the S16 engine and the example above.

The S16 provides almost equal handling and go as the GTI6, though due to the age difference, not as refined, noisier, and oviosuly more wear and tear due to the age. At around $14,000 for a well kept example, when GTI6's are still $25,000+ would have to be the best bang for your buck in the modern Pug line-up.

-update-

had a closer look at late GTi6 '98 model. Differences to my late99 model are:

98 - has key lock for hatch
98 - side outside trim (bump trim) is matt finish
98 - front lights including foglights are glass
98 - rear hatch spoiler is matt finish
98 - window on rear hatch has plastic trim surround
98 - bottom lip of the hatch has a plastic trim
98 - taillights looked the same (N5) as '99

99 - rear hatch does not have key access
99 - side finish is painted
99 - front lights including foglights are clear plastic
99 - rear hatch window is glued in , no trim
99 - no trim on bottom of the hatch

interior trim looked the same, side airbags not present or functioning (dash led did not light up)

- edit -
99 - rear hatch spoiler is unpainted and different shape

Thanks for finding the thread I couldn't find tekkie! I don't think you even realised...

I'll cut and past my new post into this thread and delete the other one.

Hi all,

I accidentally found a site with ALL the info about all the codes whilst looking for info about why the 306GTi6/Xsara VTS engine is so good for member XsaraVTR's thread about extractors for his VTR: http://www.205gti.com/techchassisnr.htm

Maybe Justin should ask if he can put this info on his 307 site?

Hope some of you find it useful.

Pug307:
Thanks for posting the details. Can we have some 206s post the VIN details, especially if we have a CC and a hatch.

Once we have cars which are certainly from the UK, then we can start working out what those magical two digits mean.

Cheers,

Justin
Ok, here's my 206 CC 2.0's VIN:
VF32DRFNF42xxxxxx

So I take it my car is:
VF3 - Europe, France, Peugeot
2 - 206
D - Cabrio
R - 2.0 16v EW10J4 engine
F - Fuel Injection
N - ?
F - 5M
4 - Built 12/02??
2 - I take it it's "Made in France"

This is interesting!! approve approve

306s were built in England. At the Sydney Morning Herald you can find old articles that talk about the poor build quality (interior etc...) being a common factor of all cars that the English have built.

"Peugeot's 306, introduced here in 1994, is rightly regarded as one of the best driver's cars on the market. Peugeot's blend of high-class handling and a supple, comfortable ride, particularly on rough roads, continues to elude most car-makers.

The Gallic heritage carries less welcome traits. Build and finish quality is not as good as Japanese cars, or the locally made Corolla. It should be noted that most 306 variants are manufactured in England; the Poms have yet to build an A-class quality car, Jaguars and Range Rovers included. Delaminating dashboards and temperamental power window switches, among other problems, have given some 306 owners grief, while in 1995 the 306 was sent to the sin-bin after French nuclear tests in the Pacific."

I believe all GTi6's and most N5 cars were built in France, hence their better build quality. As an owner of both, I can attest to that.

I think you might be right

The two 306 drivers that responded with their VIN details did have a 2 in the relevant section of the VIN which seems to indicate a French plant (it's either Mulhouse or Sochaux).

7C - 3dr hatch
LFZ - 1.8l
2 - manual
3 - made in uk
