    Default 308 Mirrors

    Hi,

I am now up to my 3rd outside mirror replacement in my 308 Hdi manual. The mirror itself is not broken, just the plastic mounting. My model does not have the automatic folding in ones. They need to be folded in manually. Is this a common weakness in the design of these mirrors? I have always got others to replace the mirrors. How easy is it to replace a broken mirror on a 308?

    Thanks

    David

Looks like one central bolt, plus an indexing pin. Probably glass up, ignition off, remove door trim and then splash panel, free connectors and clips for mirror harness, unbolt mirror and fish wiring harness through hole in door.

Are you sure the mirror isn't being broken by vandals?
Seems to be too much of a coincidence to me !

I'm not clear on this. The mirror is not broken, yet "how easy is it to replace a broken mirror". What I have seen when vandals bend back 308 and C4 units is the body coloured plastic streamlined dome over the black plastic holder for the mirror gets broken at the projections which clip over the base around the perimeter.

Yes Seasink you are correct. Poor choice of words by me.

I don't think that's the job. When vandals get at these they may break the plastic clip moulded into the painted dome mirror cover. The spatula can get it off, but cannot fix the broken plastic. The only solutiions I know are sticky tape, or mastic "glue".
