    Default 307 Hdi

Ms Ren's 2003 307 2.0 Hdi has met a violent end in the motor department.
Anyone have any ideas of where I can source a replacement engine?

Is it broken rockers? They're an easy fix. Cheap too.

If it's 2003 then that should be the 8 valve motor?

In which case - a new set of rockers (as addo has indicated), new timing belt kit and it should be OK.

I am just finishing the same repair on the same engine.

I have replaced all the rockers and the cam turns perfectly opening all valves nicely - so there are no bent valve shafts!

I just have to replace the belt and it should be good to go.

I got a new set of rockers from UK (ebay) for about $60.

PM me if you would like to come and have a look.

    cheers
    Roland

PS - if you are not sure of the motor - PM your vin number and I can check what engine it has.

Well, I got to it today, all the rockers were broken, one valve spring had been released from captivity by the bits rushing around. The valves seem OK (not bent) I pushed them down, they seem to spring back and click.
I tried refitting the valve spring with a home made spring compressor, got to the final bit and one of the collets flew into the air, never to be seen again. Anyone have any idea where I can get valve collets?

What was the ping? I know they are mad enough to list them by the each but suspect they are sold in fours or sixes or tens.

Also, don't forget to drag a pick-up magnet tool or similar all over the head to collect any bits of rocker.

    Hi Mike,
Well done getting it all apart so quickly after your visit on Tuesday.

I found where I got my set of rockers from: on Ebay(UK) from NEATCARPARTS
The Peugeot Part Number was 0903 64.

And the Haynes workshop manual catalog code number is : 23307 - Special Order $65

    Cheers

The other supplier is "trechii" who are on Fleabay and off it as well. Cheap, fast, they sell FAI brand rockers.

Still waiting on parts, thanks Addo. The harmonic balancer was on backorder from EAI. The rest of the bits are here but i'm back to work monday so it will all have to wait till next swing. In the meantime Ms R is driving my 406, which is a worry.

It lives! New camshaft, rockers, water pump, all idlers & tensioners, harmonic balancer, both belts. Started straight up & runs as sweet as..........a pug diesel.
All up, about a grand. Better outcome than the (non pug) mechanic, whose advice was to come and take the plates off and he would send it to the crusher.
All due to AF & especially Roland & Addo for saving me & the car from a fate worse than death. Great community, thanks guys

I'm pleased for you, any chance you can re-educate the bogan grease monkey (nicely) so he sharpens his outlook?

This failure and the relatively cheap/easy fix is a hidden trophy for Gumtree crawlers.

Well Addo, in his defence, in 99.9% cars, this would probably have been the case. He showed me the head off some Korean Holden, which was a wasteland of bent valves, not worth fixing in a car worth perhaps 3 grand. Most cars these days are consumer items, "chuck em away and get a new one." It is only the superior skills of French engineers (I say the French make the best cars in the world)
combined with this forum that enables us to bring our cars back from the dead. Without the internet we'd all be screwed.
