    Default Greek 205 GTI 1.9

    I absolutely love 205 GTIs.

I longed for one since I was a teen, and bought mine 10 years ago. It got an engine overhaul, a repaint and a lot of love.
It was of the road for the last four years, but I have now putt it back on the street.

Is the driveline specification as per 1.9 litre UK GTi models?

    As far as I know, yes. It's a February 89 build non-cat phase 1.5.

    A few more then.

I recentle blew the engine while trying to vmax the car. The block was holed in three different places, so I managed to find a 309 GTI for spares and took its engine, among other things.
I then had the opportunity to clean up the engine bay and the engine before installing it.

    This is another cracking tale!

Did you work out what part of the motor failed first, precipitating the catastrophic outcome?

When the engine was opened up after it blew, piston number three was severely damaged. The block was also in a bad shape as three holes were found and some previous repairs to one of them.

The engine felt fine before it went bang, though.
