Default GTi6 Timing Belt - Required parts

    Hi all,

My Gti6 has been off the road for quite a while, didn't want to risk driving while the timing belt was overdue (and funds to do the work kept getting diverted by the minister for finance).

So now it is time, I need this car back on the road so I can sell the other one. What I would love to know from you experts out there is; What parts do I need?

So far, servicebox tells me the right parts for my VIN are:

0821.r5 Timing belt kit (I believe this is the 136 tooth belt)
    1201.a1 Water pump
    0515.k6 Crankshaft pulley

Am I missing anything? Should there be the right seals included in the kit, or do I need to order them separately?

And additionally, any hints for problems with a 306 that has sat for a long time? I'll be doing a full fluid change/service obviously, but there might be something obvious I haven't thought of.

    Thanks in advance,

    Daniel

How long has it been off the road ?
I did mine back in late nov ..
$ 175 for timing belt kit
    $ 79 for water pump
I also changed both rear brake lines as ive had one leak b4 on passenger side . But i think that was cause it was close to the exhaust maybe . They were only $ 48 a pair .
Do the usual stuff ..oil .. plugs .. gear oil even

    Hi Grey_Lover.

Been off the road for over three years now I think, too long to trust it to go anywhere without a thorough going-over.

When you did the timing belt, were there seals that needed doing, and were they included with the kit?

Yes, the plan is to replace all the fluids and filters. Hadn't thought of plugs, but yes I should replace them too.

    Thanks,

    Daniel

I'd suggest also, a new aux belt, new aux idler and a whole new auxiliary belt tensioner. Plus look at re-sealing the cam box if it's leaking and renewal of the lower rear motor mount and upper offside mount.

If its been sitting that long a coolent and brake fluid flush is probably good insurance while your at it. The disc brakes may have pitted and require a machine or wire brush.

Thanks for all the replies! Work got a little hectic for a while there, but hopefully this little project will get more love soon.

So at the moment I don't think budget will stretch to engine mounts as well as timing + aux belt bits, but I'll definitely have a close look and try and assess them.

Fluids flush is definitely on my to-do list also.

Has anyone got preferred suppliers in Melbourne (or elsewhere with reasonable shipping) other than EAI? They will be getting an email request for quote/availability tomorrow.

    Thanks,

    Daniel
