    Default 203 wheels - 16 or 15 inch

Can anyone confirm for me whether all 203ís were fitted with 16 inch wheels?

I thought they were, but the other day I was told that from 1955 the beginning of the 203Cís, 15 inch wheels were fitted as standard. To me this makes sense as the transmissions are interchangeable with 403ís, which had 15 inch wheels as standard.

    Cheers,

    Hi Dan
When all else fails, consult your 203 parts book. In section 5 (pp54-B) you will see that that 400mm (16 inch in Australia) wheels were fitted to 203 sedans up to number 1.383.532. The 380mm wheels fitted thereafter equate to the Australian 15 inch variety. This number indicates implementation about 3800 units before introduction of the C2 gearbox in early June 1954. At a guess it would indicate a date of May 1954.

The short answer is that your 203 should have 15 inch wheels. The gearing change between the two sizes would be negligible as local cars were fitted with 5.50x16 and 5.90x15 tyres respectively.

    Cheers

Actually the wheel situation was different in Australia as Australian made wheels were fitted.
15s were only fitted to the last of the 203s, around 1957.
    My 56 model had 16s.
Cars with 15s usually also had a sill panel welded together in the middle, maybe they ran out of sedan panels and used cut down wagon ones?
    15s and 16s were identical in overall diameter. 590 15 c/w 520 16
