    S16 flat spot

My s16 seems to have developed a flat spot at around 3000-4000 rpm where it feels a little breathless, no real torque to speak of, after that it's business as usual.

I read the topic from a while ago by orx400 where it seems he had the same problem. Did you get it fixed?

Could it be something more serious/costly?

Brad also gave directions on how to fix it but i got a little confused, im due for a service next month, will i do any damage by waiting?

    Hey Scott

I won't go through it all again, but it sounds like you definitly have vacume loss to your intake diaphrams.

    All explained in this thread.

s16, that was my car, we got the diaphragms replaced by a pug mechanic for about $250. There are no flat spots now, and the car runs better. Best money I have ever spent. I recommend you get that done!
I had my car for about 4 months before I got it fixed, so I would leave it to your next service.

    Good luck with it.

Mmmm guys do you know if this problem occurs in the GTi6 motor?
Reason i ask is that the wreck i got the GTi6 motor out of was in an accident and you say that these diaphrames are weak. The GTi6 does have the variable length inlet runners doesn't it?

Simply..No, the Gti-6 intake and head is diferent, not by alot.
The intake is plastic on the MI-16 amd S16 on the gti-6 im sure its cast.
your throttle is bigger and the volume of it is better suited to the engine.
Funny as alot of XSi and S16 owners consider this as good bolt-on, when theplastic crap on the cars splits/cracks.
Personaly id get Throttle bodies, but hey each to his own. cheers Xq
