FLOWERS LEFT IN MEMORY OF CRASH VICTIM

    16:00 - 23 March 2004

Floral tributes were left today for an Aberdeen dad-of-one who lost his life in a road smash.

Bunches of flowers were tied to railings on Riverside Drive, with tributes to Lee, who died in the crash.

The 30-year-old's full name has not been released by police.

He was driving on Riverside Drive at around 3.25am yesterday when he lost control of the car, crashed into a tree and tumbled down a grass embankment, hitting a pedestrian on a walkway below.

Both the pedestrian and a car passenger survived the accident.

But the blue Peugeot 206 was ripped in half and the driver pronounced dead at the scene.

Inspector Ian Kirkwood, who is leading the inquiry into the accident, appealed for anyone in the city centre or Beach Boulevard area who saw the blue Peugeot 206 during late evening or early morning.

Since 1993, he said, Riverside Drive has seen two fatal accidents and six resulting in serious injuries.

He said: "While I must stress the circumstances of yesterday's accident are still under investigation, experience with previous accidents has shown us inappropriate speed has been a major factor in accidents on this road."

Have a go at the time of this & the previous accident happened though; don't they ever sleep over there? And as it's presently as cold as a frogs mamiya glands over there, what was the 'pedestrian' doing wandering down the road at 3.25am? Looking for what got frozen off perhaps..

If it ain't broke, use a 12" shifter.....that usually does the trick!!

Me thinks it was probably a bit of street racing (lools like an awesome road) .. wonder if the pedestrian had a camera pointing down the road...

    Yikes!

Looks like a wee bit too much lift-off oversteer hey??
Not nice.. not nice at all

It looks like Aberdeen's version of the Yarra Boulevarde from that map.

    Is this fate???

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The car's male passenger and the pedestrian, also male, were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with injuries which were not thought to be serious.

I it would happen like this more often. I'm tired of seeing the driver get off with minor injuries and others dieing from his/her stupidity.

When you see a wreck like that and at least 1 person basically walked away, speaks volumes for the Euro safety standards. Nothing will overcome shear stupidity though.

Sheesh, if that little dead end road off Perth Road joined up with Riverside Drive, they'd have a mini F1 track... not that I'm condoning such behaviour.
