    Default Quick question for the 205 braintrust

    I'm borrowing a 205 for the day, not a GTi sadly! Out of curiosity I popped the hood to see what engine it was but couldn't see any giveaway markings (not a 205 expert). When I checked the model identifier on the VIN (20CBD2) it's giving me an Si 1.6l 5spd manual, but after driving it home I'm reasonably confident it's an auto. Has the '205 Automatic' badging on the back too. There's nothing going on inside to suggest it's had a swap at some stage, but again I'm no expert. Is there any other way to tell?

    Mine has had a swap (from man to auto) and the easiest tell tail is the pedal arrangement...

    Well pedals seemed fairly standard to me. Lack of clutch and brake pedal was a big wide one.

    OK, if the VDS part of the VIN sez it's 20CBD2, then it is a MANUAL Si (or in Europe a manual XS/RG)

    The last character indicates:
    1 = 4 speed manual
    2 = 5 speed manual
    4 = automatic

    For completeness - 20 = 205 model, BD = XU5M/Z engine

    So I suspect someone has jammed in the Auto trans just for fun
