Default Timing Belts on 306 s16

Well boys, I thoroughly enjoyed my drive from Canberra to Sydney for the long week-end. My heart raced and my palms sweated the whole way! Took about 2hrs 40mins (arrived in peak-hour traffic!). I am amazed. I am so in love with my Peugeot it brings tears to my eyes. I was unable to ascertain a top speed because she just kept on going... so sweet and eager to please. I turned the radio off and kept the windows shut so I could listen to her purr and quietly beg for more...

Alpine did a great job. They said she's in perfect condition! I work in Woden so Phillip is very convenient. I'm a little concerned about my Cam belt. I know they're supposed to last 80K. Mine has only done 60K. But the guy at Alpine mentioned something about the s16 wearing them out faster. Heaven forbid anything damage my pride and joy (and my best friend in Canberra so far! - I moved from Perth 3wks ago).

By the way, does anyone know how much my 1994 306s16 is worth? I picked it up in Perth before I came for less than 10K but couldn't insure it for less than $14 500. I suspect I got a bargain - I think the dude wanted to get rid of it coz it cost too much to maintain (judging from the service history he was spending well over $1000 every 6 mths, so as you can imagine it's in pretty good condition mechanically) Tha rest is pretty good to. The paintwork is a little chipped.

You definately got a bargain $10k for a '94 s16 with 60k on the clock. I've seen them for $14k with more miles, and rarely see them advertised 2 weeks in a row, so you've done well. The timing belt should be done every 80k or 4 years. Definately get it changed on time otherwise you'll be up for a largish bill (over $4k) Given that the car is much older than 4 years and presuming it hasn't been done I'd get it done sooner rather than later. There is also a post somewhere on here recently that talks about the Gti6, which has a similar motor (I think). It says that they are hard on their belts. There was also so discussion about the water pumps as well. Here is the thread ( See all the hard works done for ya )

Surely thats got to be worth a test drive

    Sounds like some porn!!!

Glad to see you're enjoying it. You're best to play it safe and get the cam belt done. That one was one of cheapest I have seen. Mine is insured for an agreed value rather than market value as I feel it's in better condition than others and also had a new engine at 80k kms.
