Default 306GTI6 renewal and update time

I'm a whisker off 300K in my 99 GTI6. Still on the original clutch. So I was thinking when it visits the workshop for the next cam belt change it might be clutch time and rebuild time. Question is when rebuilding a 6 engine are there warmer options available in Australia for new cams or must I import form the UK? I'm starting to question my ride quality but its hard to assess. Has anyone replace the front shocks? What have you used and are OEM shocks still available?

Cams are available. You can potentially piggyback the ecu to cope. PeterT cams are the way to go.
A lightweight flywheel will help and is a nice upgrade while its apart.

Can comment on the shocks. Whos rebuilding it?

The Colliers at Granville are my trusted repairers and have motorsport experience. Fly wheel tip is a good one... I had not considered that!

Ok great. Do they have experience with the RS motor?

Ttv flywheel is the one you want. They are 3.2kgs and work fine with a standard ecu.

For a standard clutch (215mm) you want Part No-0686, 3.8kgs. Ask him to supply 6 x M7 pressure plate bolts as well. You need to drill the holes in the pressure plate as the standard ones are M6.

My S16's clutch was down to the rivets and slipping (though the main oil seal leaking was not helping there) at ~240,000KM. If you have done 300,000KM on the original shocks then I would think that they would be tired. I replaced mine at around 165,000KM and noticed a big improvement. The thing is they degrade slowly so it is hard to pick up on it. I started to notice the car being a little more prone to undulating on certain roads.

I just checked service box and front and rear shocks are still available for my S16 so they definitely should be available for the six. I believe the replacement part listed (original S16 part is not available any more) is actually the Gti6 part.

I thrashed my 1997 car and needed new clutch at 155K. This 1999 one still gets the odd caning but has done a lot of sixth gear work with the cruise on!
