Default Peugeot 308 2009 oil and filters

    Guys,

Any suggestions on engine oil and power steering fluid types and suppliers.

Apparently Total are tied up with contracts to Peugeot.

I've found Valvoline Syn Power MST so far

Would the oil change intervals be best done every 10k

    Thanks

It's most important to meet or exceed the specifications required of the engine oil. This is not just the grade (ie; 15W/50) but for example the ACEA grade and ash content.

Beyond that, like favourite sauce on chips, everyone has their own preferences.

You haven't said which engine, though your Valvoline pick suggests a diesel. Getting suitable oil for HDI engines means just a little looking for the spec. Don't get it wrong, it could end up expensive. There are a few brands, but some are only available in bulk. Total and Shell are findable, as is Penrite.

For petrols its very easy to get the correct grade.

I have a supply of Total oil for the Citroen diesel in the cupboard, and I'm not a dealer. If you can't find any here, give Onshore in Brisbane a call, though they will sell it in cartons - 15 L minimum. The courier fee is added on, but you may find the $/litre is still competitive. They can supply the LDS as well.

For the correct filter, give EAI at Thornleigh a bell, and have it couriered to Berry the next day.

Always mention your engine in this forum, as PSA fit so many different ones. Welcome, BTW.

My comments above are for your engine. Make those calls, as you aren't likely to find anything in Berry, though Nowra would have correct spec engine oil somewhere. Genuine LDS spec is harder. Even with courier charges you'll get oils and filters well in front of dealer pricing.

Citroen recommends an oil and filter change at 12mths or 20,000 km for that engine.

Yes, I also use Penrite Enviro + 5W 40, which, as advised by Penrite, is interchangeable with the 5w 30 (Enviro +). Both oils are formulated for modern diesels with DPF.

We have hot summers & below freezing point winters, so either of the Penrite specs meet those conditions.

Last time I looked Castrol Edge Diesel is to C3 spec. The recommended Quartz Ineo ECS is a C2 product.

Dealers do substitute the wrong spec. It must be low ash, so always check it out.

Refer back to this thread from a 2011 - What's the truth about Aussie diesel contaminating the Eolys fluid?

In it Diesel_vert lists oils that comply with the standard B71 2290.

Bill McNamee (Pug Club mechanic in Canberra) puts a Nulon brand fully synthetic oil in my 2lt 308 HDi.

Going by memory I think he said he did a fair bit of research and it seemed the best with extending the life of these engines, and has been using it for a couple of years now.

And uses a Castrol Fully synthetic oil in the wife's 2lt petrol 307

Interesting about Bill McNamee, because Nulon 5W-30's a C3 spec. It also has higher sulphated ash than Total's product.
