Default 406 with 2.1 lt turbo diesel engine and a fuel leak. URGENT

Hi to all. The trusty old diesel has been getting a bit harder to start during the last fortnight, but usually only after it has rested up for a day or two, and a few pumps of the rubber bulb cures the issue by eliminating the air bubbles. Yesterday A leak from the bottom of the fuel filter was spotted where there is an elongated 'oval' knob next to the inlet spigot for incoming fuel from the pressurising bulb. The elongated knob was in a vertical position and thinking it may be tightenable it was turned by about 20 degrees. From then on it was harder to pump-up and to start. Late today the whole filter housing was removed for closer examination and the point of escaping fuel appears to be an item for giving preference to the direction of incoming fuel; as in routing it to the heated housing the filter attaches to or to bypass it.
The elongated knob looks to be a switch that is not intended to be repairable.! Does anyone have experience with curing leaks from this location.?? Peugeot service box does not show the offending item for my vin number.

Urgency dispelled. If careful the round retaining clip can be removed and a new 'o' ring fitted. The repair is 4 hrs old & so far so good.!
