    Default 205 Shocks dilemma

    Hey guys,

Im overseas at the moment but Im going to make an order for the front shocks of my 205 GTI. It currently has GTI6 rears. I bought some B4 billies off a dealer on eBay but they were waiting on bilstein and it took many months before I pulled the plug and got a refund.

I have spoken to EAI they have 2 options for the fronts.

One is by Record (France) which are a gas type. They say these will be for smoothness and comfort.

The other is by Quinton Hazel but I am hesitant to go with a company which only specialises in OEM parts in general. These are oil type, which they say will be closer to the original set up.

Does any body have any experience with either brand? I am looking for whichever would provide best performance and/or closest to original spec. I have given up on billies unless anybody knows where I can get a set for under $300.

    Cheers,
    Lach

I also ordered some B4s 3 weeks ago and was told that one front side was available but the factory was making the other side (!) and they were out of stock. Is this what you are saying - waiting months for the factory?
I have been told that those no-brand replacements are rubbish.

Isis I ordered my B4s in November that's how long I have been waiting. They were waiting for one side too.

I gave up in the end because I got sick of using Google translate to negotiate in broken German :/

I bought a set of Gaz suspension. Coil overs at the front and normals rear shocks. All four externally adjustable. You can choose your spring rates. So far so good.

about $1,100 au inc transport for the whole lot!

I wonder which manufacturer makes the QH shocks for them.

Coilovers would be great but well above my budget. I am swaying towards konis now. Koni streets (STR.T) are about half the price of Koni yellows. I do not need adjustable suspension at this point so would the koni streets be comparable to the bilstein B4s for pure fast road use? On occasion I drive on rough roads for work but nothing too sinister.

My bet is you get what you pay for and Koni "Streets " will be like a commuter car ride. So save up for Koni Yellow or B4s and get the performance you're after.for a GTI. By the way, no offence intended, but fast road is a stupid pommy term that means nothing in my opinion....

I wonder if there is same delay problem with B6's as the B4's. Sounds like the B6's are bit too 'fast road' :> anyway.

I agree with you there I can't find any testimonies by anyone online for the koni streets on 205s specifically, I don't like to purchase based on assumption. The yellows would be my next option.

No offence taken, I spend a lot of time on the 205gtidrivers forum as well as AF so everything is a blur when it comes to terms. "Fast road" to me means: that car in my driveway that I'm too scared to abuse on the commute but I'm otherwise willing to rat it on the streets

I'm waiting on B4s for the 405, they are the only better than cheap aftermarket shocks available for 405. Supposed to arrive in the UK tomorrow.
At any rate the used original Peugeot ones I fitted to replace the leaking LIPs are very good so no hurry.

no experience but I just got my hands on a rear beam that had a set of Record shocks. Not sure what my current 205 is using yet.

+1 for koni yellows for the kind of driving (whatever you call it!) you're talking about.
