Default Peugeot on Top Gear Lastnight

In the latest Top Gear that just aired a few hours ago, Clarkson and May did a film on Peugeot that may interest some. I don't want to ruin the segment for anyone who hasn't seen it yet, so I'll just say that it starts with some high praise followed by some of the usual antics we've come to expect from Clarkson & Co. Worth checking out if you enjoy a chuckle.

That's the one! The title threw me but I think they've done it to avoid it being taken down...

Very good! Sums up my view of modern Peugeots perfectly.

Also liked to smooth integration of the adverts!

Yah! Typical Peugeot bashing. Like them to explain how 308 became 2014 Euro car of the year and very overwhelmingly!

Its all pretty tongue in cheek. From memory when Hammond did the RS Clio vs Fiesta ST vs 208 GTi he was only critical of the Clio. Fifth Gear had similar views.

I'm glad my 206 seems to have just made the cutoff between wonderful sports car and terrible appliance.
It would seem that the jokes once made about the ability of Volvo drivers have been transferred to Peugeot in UK. I don't think there is the same in Australia.

I did enjoy the piece, and I do think the current crop of Peugeot's have been crap, although the 208 is maybe getting better.

    Hehe. Pretty funny.

The faces of Clarkson and May when driving and "negotiating" a turn were priceless!!

I remember someone reviewing a Citroen not that long ago who said it was pretty good but not quirky enough!

Mr Clarkson seemed very complimentary about the 307. He was most enthusiastic about the open fire, which lets face it is not a common feature in other vehicles. All in all a fair review.

That's true, in the past you had to buy a Lamborghini or a Ferrari to get onboard fires

Unless you used one of these

or similar. They were actually relatively widely used a few years back when petrol was scarce.

Good call. There was a guy on Whirlpool forums not that long ago who was putting some serious research into getting a wood-powered car going. I thought it was an elaborate hoax until I watched a few videos on it.

I think what Clarkson was getting at was that anything that Peugeot put their minds to they did well.... And he was keen to know what will come next. The RCZR, 208, 308 would suggest that Peugeot are heading down a difference track that will lead to cars that are more desirable.

Peugeot seems to attract drivers who are more inclined than average to belittle every other model of their chosen brand than those they drive themselves, which to any outside observer would have to make them look like dills. That Top Gear would continue to pay out on them just reassures me that Peugeot still aren't sucking up to them enough to buy a more favourable PoV. The market seems to disagree with their assessments, and so do I.

Why should a company that has known how to build cars well for more than a hundred years suddenly lose its corporate and manufacturing memory? All I saw was a couple of very poorly-driven cars, both still running at the end of a day that might have disabled a few others. And all I learned is that -- at least the way Jeremy Clarkson does it -- the 307CC has a design issue with its window controls, or (more likely) that particular one had a dud switch, or a dud operator; and that electrical controls can fail if they're abused. I don't see how that segment would have been any different if they'd been sitting in any other kind of cars and driving them in the same manner. I want 20 wasted minutes of my life back ...
