    Default 205 short shift

To those in the know - what is the best mod for the short shift lever with a gti-6 motor with gti-6 exhaust?

I have seen people have issues with clearance and don't really want to spend money on an after market lever or attachment that won't fit.

    Thanks everyone.

Yep, exactly that. I think mine is 15mm. Its old as the hills. No issues with the 6 manifold on my car. Its close but does not touch.

I had issues with my gear rods popping off from the heat. A set of miles rods sorted that. If you have not changed them already, the bushes for the L bracket should be replaced, cheap and easy. Its worth doing the one under the gearstick too.

    Default I told you so

Well everyone said to put the short shift "L" lever in before doing the engine swap.

    They said it was easier.

They said it was worth it.

Well, everyone was right on both counts.

It was an absolute pain trying to get the bolt underdone with the gti6 manifold nearby. It was also a pain to re-bend the selector rod to clear the down pipe joint with the new shorter lever.

But, it's done. And it really is great.

Less throw front to rear and a much more positive feel to the gear changes. Not notchy at all, just positive, like a modern gearbox setup.

Thanks again to all for the advice and parts. Happy days! (not doing it again though!)
