I had to replace the seal under the screw on cap on my 405 recently as since there's bugger all room to tighten the threaded ring by hand, I resorted to using my cam holding tool.

Sorry to go off topic, but puggti6.. Wher did you get the seal for the top of the tank on a 405? I need one but thought they were not available.

306's have the same seal and being that bit newer than the 405's seem to be plentiful & in good condition secondhand. Citroen Xsara's of the same vintage are different though.

    I got mine from Nick-a-part.

Thanks. Hopefully I'll find a good one and people will stop telling me that my car smells like fuel.

have a look at the charcoal canister, a poor setup if the filter is clogged, feed kinked etc, it might also cause a heavy fuel smell too.

I needed a new fuel pump for the 307 , and Mitch at Reno Reck told me to never leave a plastic tank without the pump assembly installed and the retaining ring screwed on properly , he had a number of people who removed pump to check it and by the time they received the new part the tank had changed shape and they were not able to get the threaded ring to fit onto the tank again. He had to sell them complete tanks.
