    Default 205 gearboxes

PeterT had a spread sheet for the 205 gearbox ratios with the different diffs that came out from the S1 to S3.

Does anyone still have a copy and can they post it please coz it was lost in the crash.

    Thanks,
    Luca

early diff & late gearbox is the best combination. Or, use the 4.06 diff from various other models of Pugs/Citroens. Or better still, use a 4.43:1 diff from an Mi16.

Some people call these 'parts-bin cars' - the early Australian introductory models. I've checked the gearing of my specially purchased (for the Mi16 conversion) '87 205 BE1 and it appears to be a 1.6 GTI box. The 4.06 diff that is. The code on the box is [2BN28] which really only tells you 2 - it's a gearbox; BN - the location of the factory it was made in (e.g. Mullouse) and 28 - something I can't remember right now. Yet all the '87 cars had [2BN28] boxes. Very rare boxes... I've got some Peugeot literature explaining how to read gearbox codes...

I reckon the "75 kW 205 GTI" (as quoted on that spreadsheet), was for 1988 to 1990 cars...

Could be, but I haven't seen one. They've all been 3.94. The 75kW car was known as the "Export" model. Detuned 1.9L with 1.6L GTi 14" running gear. Makes perfect sense if true.

Hi, mine also seems to be the 1.6 BE1 box with the 4.06 diff. It is an early 1987 import. I thought it may have been altered to race but perhaps not as the spare box is the same. It also doesn't have a real low first which lines it up with the pommy spec 1.6.

I haven't checked out the codes but must do so.

    Cheers

    Jim

    Yes.

Quaife is not a ratio, but a centre that fits into any crown wheel.
