    Default 306 Cabriolet rear window.

My 306's rear window is a bit cloudy But not too bad yet. I'm wondering if anyone has had good luck trying to clean them up. Or does it need to be replaced?

    Thanks
    Chris

I first tried getting just a new window from the US, but it didn't quite fit. Finally got full new roof from UK and fitted it myself. My posts are on here somewhere.

Just received a eBay rear window from a Sydney crowd. I let you know how the change out goes.

I've spoken to that guy. Because mine is stitched in not zipped in it won't work.

How much was the roof and was it hard to fit?

Hard to say exactly how much as I bought it in while I was actually there and had it shipped. Including shipping, which was surprisingly cheap (about $80 from memory) it was about $850, I think. Certainly of that order. The mob I bought it from always advertise in the UK classic car mags. If you need it, I can rummage for the receipt.

As for fitting, I was quoted $1700 by a Canberra trimmer to do it - so thought I better have a stab. It wasn't 'easy' per say, but BT being very methodical and careful I got there in the end. Took about 5 hours. Very happy with the result. (The "Easy DIY instructions" are quite useless, BTW. No diagrams and generic to all the tops they sell. After subtracting the (MGB only) and (Midget only) steps, there were only about 7 steps described!) For reference - I'd describe my workshop skills as 'useful but hardly expert at anything'.

Off the top of my head it was about 42 pop rivets, 3 metres of contact glue, two presstuds, 12 screws and some clips. (Again, I think I posted the result on here somewhere).

    Hope this helps!

    Cheers,

    Tony.

P.S. Yours might be a little bit cheaper because it's black. Mine was 'coloured', I.e. blue. And don't worry about the inside appearance options as the interior lining is separate and stays in there.

Well I went to Autobahn today and they sold me a plastic Polish. (Thought it couldn't hurt to try). And now the window is actually useable. I can tell if there's a car there now. It's not perfect But it'll do!

I got a new top from European Trimming in UK, cost about $900 delivered here ,When fitting it myself the material was too tight and the frame wouldn't close down to the windscreen . I had to modify the rear hood bow to take some pressure off for it to work properly .Next time I would order from Franzose in Germany

That's interesting. I'm my attempt to find a replacement I found a company that supply and fit a new window for $700.(with a warranty). Which includes removing the roof cover. I only didn't do it because I decide mine wasn't bad enough
