    Default 403 seat restoration

Does anyone know of a secret stash of 1959 seat material. Just wondering what the restorers do these days. My 403 has that grey speckle material that looks like it came from a 1960 kitchen chair and I just got told it's no longer available (shock horror). I'd like to keep the originality and don't want it to look like a patchwork quilt so anyone got any ideas?

All the trimmer could offer was that if I can find some more seats he might be able to cut and use sections but what's my chances of finding one with good sections.

David, you are right about the seats looking like a kitchen setting. The material was made by Nylex and favoured by Namco in the late 1950s and early '60s. My 1960 403 had the same in red. I am not sure if Nylex is still in business but enquiries with upholsterers specialising in retro furniture may turn up results if you mention the manufacturer. It appears that Continental and General relied heavily on the domestic sector in sourcing their materials. I also remember the corded Westminster house carpet used on 403 floors.

    Best of luck

    Tony
