Default 205 clunk from the rear

Just picked up a 205 GTI and noticed that there's an occasional loud clunk from the rear somewhere. Its not regular like a dodgy ball joint, its now and again over the larger bumps. Also does it when you put handbrake on on a hill and let go of the foot brake. Any ideas what this might be? A shock mount maybe? Thanks

Probably a rear transverse beam bearing failure (the part the trailing arms attach to).

If you do a search for "205 rear beam" in the google search box near the top of any AussieFrogs page, you should see plenty of links to this very common problem.
