    Default what is a D9 406?

On the classifieds someone wants to buy a 406 D9, I'm kind of new to Peugeots (had my 307 hdi less than a year) but I've googled and I can't find out what a D9 is? Is it the XUD9 diesel engine? But I see some D9 petrol 406s for sale?

    Just curious.

The D9 relates to the series of the 406. I think the first series was D8 so this is the later car in the series before they came out with a new model, the Peugeot 407. So in a nutshell just tells you whether it's an earlier or later car.

I see, it's like the T5 or T6 with the 307, thanks for clearing that up!

There is one major change in the car that didn't get a model designator, the D8/D9 is for the change in the exterior styling which is noticeable mostly on the front grille but also the rear lights (and in the cars delivered to Australia we changed from a basic to a mid level equipment/fitout). You won't get the HDi engine in a D8 so be careful if looking for a diesel.

The D9 designator was the used until the end of production, but they changed the complete electrical system over to the multiplexed com2000 around 2002. The majority of the electrical parts were changed!

Yeh, they are a bit more luxurious particularly inside. More fake wood trim, Sign that says "Peugeot" on top the sill and visible when opening the door, different windscreen with sensor for rain sensing wipers, different engine, etc.

Later cars also introduced multiplex wiring. EW series motors for the 2.0 petrol. V6 gained more power with VVT.

In addition, they are a stronger body, as shown by the NCAP crash test scores. Interior was better quality, multifunction display and tripcomputer...
