Default Seat belt warning message front passenger

My wife's car is a 2007 407 2litre HDi auto touring. Her husband that will be me sprayed some graphite powder into the passenger front seat belt catch to make the connection easier to engage. So he thought.Problem is that now the multifunction screen tells us that the passenger side is not engaged when it clearly is.Just a coincidence? Did I do the wrong thing? Any ideas would be welcome to overcome problem.

Graphite is an extremely good conductor, so I guess you have closed a circuit. You will have to find something that evaporates to wash it out (not petrol!)

Get yourself a can of circuit board cleaner. Somewhere like jaycar may have it. Spray that in and see how it goes.

In earlier times, a light like that described above would have been called a "mother-in-law light"..............Sorry mum, the seatbelt is kaput, I can't take you anywhere........
Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone............

Thanks gents for the helpful and not so helpful replies. Yes she has already complained about the graphite on the passenger seat. If I can go back 45 years we/she spent more time in the back seat so there would have no complaints about that dirty graphite. Did they have graphite back then? I will try the circuit board cleaner.

What an amusing thread Jaycar carry the aforementioned circuitboard cleaner, can't hurt to give it a try. Failing that, maybe get some compressed air or something in there?

    G'day,
be sure to wear some eye protection if you use compressed air.

Pestered neighbour sans compressor who gave the Peugeot seat belt buckle the biggest ( starts with b ends with w) job of all time.
When I stop drinking Red, I will take Pug out tomorrow with wife, dog or something equally heavy in the passenger seat to see if prob has been cured.
If not, I will remove her from passenger seat and get someone lighter so they wont set sensor off unless she can shed 25 kilos between now and Friday morning. Fat chance.

Well fellow Pug travellers, problem with seat belt buckle and graphite now cured thanks to next door neighbour and his compressor unit.
Lesson of the day don't spray graphite into seat buckle.

Is inox conductive? If not, use that instead.
