    Default Vibration/Shake - 307 2.0 HDi Touring

    Hi all,

My wife's 307 has developed a substantial shake when running at idle.

It appears to smooth at higher revs, but I'm obviously concerned there is something very wrong.

My initial thoughts went to engine mounts and and flywheel, but I now think engine mounts doesn't quite fit the symptoms. I haven't noticed any extra thumps or bangs through the drive train.

The dual-mass flywheel is easy to point the finger at, but having a search through some other threads seems to indicate this isn't a usual symptom. I did notice some occasional clattering from the bell housing, but the clutch is still operating fine. It just seems like the whole crankshaft etc has suddenly become unbalanced.

Anyone have any ideas? And the big question... am I right to have stopped driving it completely?

    Thanks in advance,

    Daniel

Check for a leaky injector. My wife's 207 HDI had a "miss" at idle and that's what it was, accompanied by a horrible half-burnt diesel smell. If it's been leaking for a while you may see some tar looking stuff around the culprit.

Could also be the DMF de-bonding. Not good to leave it longer term.

Can't say I noticed an uneveness, but it is a diesel so how could I tell? :-D Thanks I'll have a look.

That's what I thought was the most likely, but not being particularly clear on how they work I'm at a loss to explain why it makes such a difference (unless the DMF has failed completely).

Nevermind, I have a couple of things to look at for now, hopefully I can narrow it down.

    Thanks guys.

Quick update, thanks again for the replies. The experts at Auto Paris went right through the car properly (possibly for the first time going by what they found - won't find me at a Peugeot dealer again in a hurry).

Among other things they changed the clutch and DMF and replaced an engine mount, et voila the wiggles are gone.

    Cheers!

Holy **** - not a cheap fault-finding mission to come out the other side of.

Good to hear the final synopsis.
