my central locking doesn't seem to work since i bought my 89/90 205 GTi last year.

the hayes manual says it was an option, was this true for the GTi?

Any idears on how to fix it.

... eyyy, felixblack1, all Australian delivered 205gtis were optioned with central locking as standard.

The central locking will only work from the driver's side, dude - from the outside with a turn of the key or when the driver's side "button' is depressed - it will not work from the passenger end... my central locking is hooked up to my alarm, so there isnt any chance of ruining my manicure... hehehe.

I had the same problem several months back. A little bird told me, that such things are likely to occur due to the vintage of our rampaging lions (general wear and tear). The most likely suspects are the central locking motors found on either side. You need to remove the door trim to get to the main central locking mechanism. The suspect motor was found and replaced by a non-genuine Peugeot motor (cost was roughly $45... the genuine Peugeot part was in excess of 150 bucks!). It now never skips a beat,

Yep, it could well be the motor(s). But also check the other obvious things like fuses, electrical connections into the motors, etc.

I have this ongoing problem with mine where (I think) the motor doesn't lift the lock button high enough, then when you go to open the door from the inside, it drags the lock button back down again, locking you inside!
Oh well, any excuse to drive it a bit further
Unfortunately the 'warrant of fitness' testers don't quite see it that way frown

It could also be that the original infra red remote is shagged. They never worked very well new.
I had my infra red replaced with a Vision digital un it which will unlock the doors at 30 metres not 30cm like the old infra red ones. Similar unit to the Fuego Le Plip.

Vision or VDO do a remote kit which has an immobiliser as well.

    good luck.

I'd like to fit a remote to the factory central locking on my 505. Is it easy to do? I don't really want an immobiliser or alarm, just a remote control for the central locking.

    Thanks

The only thing I found today was a imoboliser with keyless entry included for $199. I might be going with this.

It was a special at Strathfield car radios.

    njm,

I bought a Rhino (RES4601) Immobilisation unit from tricky Dicky (Dick Smith) and fitted it to my 505 STi.
It's been great as a central remote locking system (I didn't bother with the immobiliser function). Having used now for 2 years I wouldn't be without it.

And about 10 months ago there was an article in the PCCV (and repeated in the NSW club magazine) about how to fit a similar unit to a 505.

It's very easy to fit (I can help with advice if you get stuck).

    con....

... did this remote central locking (from the series 3) incorporate an alarm system, also???

I have an infra-red remote - my 205GTi is an '88 series 1 - that operates both my central locking and alarm... was this alarm (and set-up) a factory fitted option or after market? The reason why i ask is that the KEY that is used to manually turn the alarm, on and off, is done in a similar style to that of the ignition key.

    Do ya'll gets? .
The alarm system is called "Repeller" and made in Italia.

next vb's on me cheers! ,
