    Default 504 TI Question

I have just saved a 504 TI from the crusher, it is complete with minimal rust and has been sitting under a cover for years. Last night I thought I might whack a battery in it, some fresh fuel and see if the old girl would start, after some persistence she did fire briefly much to my surprise but I can't keep it running. Can any TI guru's out there shed some light on what might be wrong or what else I could be doing to start the car? Any manual priming for the fuel injection etc?

    Cheers

    Anthony

I'd check the injection pump toothed drive belt is not broken first thing.
The cold start injector will deliver enough fuel for a short time, thus the engine will run briefly. New belts, when available are $200 touch.

After that, check fuel filters etc.

Also check that the fuel feed pump at the rear is working .There should be an even buzzing sound when the ignition is on . New filters would be a good idea .Also check the ignition system for a good spark .In my experience most problems with TI/s can be traced back to electrical problems rather than fuel problems.

It would be good to know the history of the car ,if it was driven to its storage place or was stored because it was not running.

Check line fuel filter under car just in front of tank.

Maybe the car was under a cover for a reason.

    Any photos?

If its been sitting a long time it may need to be bleed. I'd also check all the basics first like the pump at the back, ignition and that it has fuel. If no luck there move to bleeding it at the injectors. Crack the fuel line where it meets the injector and spin it to see if it has fuel there. If it won't bleed to here after some persistence It may need to be bleed at the delivery valves on top of the pump.
