Griff Eng Gear Linkage Systems

Has anyone installed the “Griff Eng Gear Linkage Systems” for the 206 Gti? The web sight states that they reduce gear lever movement by up to 50%. This sounds like a good thing… and they are only 39 quid. www.griff-eng.co.uk

there's a guy in melbourne (mark) who custom makes a short shift for the 206gti (exactly the same as the griffiths one) - with three settings. the shifts are much shorter, but the shorter you go, the heavier the throw. i had it installed for $120 (i haven't bought myself axle stands yet, and the guy's got a hoist in his garage)

very worthwhile. the guys email addy is

It is a bit clunkier - but you get used to the notchyness pretty soon

I've got mine in the middle position ... I wouldn't recommend the shortest throw position (which is the last - farthiest away hole) and longest throw position is great too (this still gives you about a 33% reduction - and the setting I'm thinking of moving mine back to).

If you go ahead and it's a DIY I've got some simple tips that will make life easier.

Do you know if you installed a quick shift, if this would void the new car warranty?

i don't think it voids the warranty. a mechanic from my dealer has driven my car and said that a few other people with 206s had them installed as well. i think it would only be a problem if there was a gearbox problem ... but i can't see how

Don't lap up what the dealers tell you. I even know some that were "installed" by the dealers. In anycase, remove it before trying to make any sort of claim. Most (but not all) gearbox problems arise from driver abuse - downshifting without matching engine revs is a killer, as is beating the synchros.
